I WATCH HIM AS HE WALKS AWAY

I watch him as he walks away,

With his shoulders squared and standing tall.

I cannot find the right words to say,

For I know he must heed his country's call!

His mother and I taught him all the right stuff,

Love of God and love of his fellow man.

We taught him that if life's road gets rough,

We must accept it as God's plan.

I watch him as he walks away,

A boy who has become a man overnight.

Wasn't it only yesterday I watched him play?

And now he must go and fight.

I watch him as he walks away.

I'm as proud as I can be!

How often I have heard folks say,

He's "the spittin" image" of me!

I watch him as he walks away.

He's just topped the little hill.

I hope we'll meet again some day.

I pray it is in God's will.

I watch him as he walks away,

With tears streaming down my face,

Knowing there will be many a lonely day,

Around the old home place.

I watch him as he walks away.

Then, I place him in God's hands.

Ah, I know He'll not my trust betray!

You see, He loves and understands!

BLESSED SAVIOR

Blessed Savior, You are worthy,

Of all our honor and our praise!

You have helped us through hard trials,

As you worked Your wondrous ways!

So, we humbly come before You,

Bowing prostrate at Your feet,

As we seek for tender mercy,

And Your fellowship so sweet!

You have been with us in the valley,

And upon the mountain high!

When we called Your name in earnest,

You were faithful to draw nigh!

Just the mention of Your precious name,

Dispels all fear and doubt!

Lord, if we should fail to praise You,

The very rocks would cry out!

We are so thankful for Your presence.

We are so grateful for Your love!

Ah Yes, one day we're going to meet You,

In that blessed home above!

CLOSE TO THEE, LORD
Robert F. Dotson © 2015

Lord, just to be,

Close to Thee,

Is my soul's desire!

Along the road,

Toward Heaven's abode,

I long to climb up higher!

Though for miles,

Troubles and trials,

May try to block my view,

Your hand I'll grip,

And I'll not slip,

For I've put my trust in You!

When I'm tried,

You're by my side,

Giving the strength I need!

Day or night,

All is right,

If I'll just let you lead!

Sweet Heaven awaits,

With it's pearly gates,

In welcome swung open wide!

So, at my journey's end,

With Jesus, my Friend,

I shall joyfully step inside!

AH, SPRING IS HERE!
 Robert F. Dotson © 2015

Ah, 'tis Spring! Oh, happy day!

Winter's cold is gone away!

The sky is blue! The grass is green,

And the flowers are the prettiest,

I've ever seen!

Their assorted hues of lavender, yellow, and red,

Adorn many a beautiful flower bed!

Also, wild flowers appearing here and there,

Sway in the warmer Springtime air!

Farmers plowing and sowing their fields,

Are hoping for greater annual yields!

Ah, soon there will be vast fields of green,

Planted with hay, corn, and soybeans!

'Tis Spring when a mother rabbit goes on a quest,

To find for her "younguns" a suitable nest!

Observant robins recognize the sound,

Of earthworms moving under the ground!

They then hop by to take a peak,

And quickly grasp them with their beak!

Friend, our God has decorated the land,

With beauties from His artistic hand!

Across the very face of Earth,

His creation is speaking of new birth!

Here and there are trees with majestic blooms!

There are weddings with happy brides and grooms!

Ah, when these happenings appear,

My heart just sings for Spring is here!

WE'RE THE DOTSONS!
By Robert F. Dotson ©2015

Just call us 'Bob" and "Linda Lou,

If that's agreeable with you.

No Mr. or Mrs. is needed for my wife and me!

There's no reason to "make a fuss."

There's nothing fancy about us.

We're just as plain as plain can be.

We grew up eating fried taters, soup beans,

Pork, chicken, and wild greens.

Our milk came straight from the family cow!

Through the years we've never tried,

To act dignified.

And it's a little to late to start now!

Yes, we've had some trials along the way,

Times when we had to kneel and pray,

"Father, help us to stand the test."

The storm clouds had gathered all around.

But, in God's shelter we happily found,

A place of perfect peace and rest!

We're now approaching our "autumn years."

It's a time when nearly everybody fears,

That life will be a burden too hard to bear.

But, together we'll make a stand,

Walking hand in hand,

Knowing we serve a God Who is always there!

HE IS RISEN
By Robert F. Dotson ©2015

Following Jesus' death on Calvary,

Our wretched souls to save,

Joseph of Arimathaea,

Laid His precious body in a grave.

Yes, "the Savior of all the world,"

In a borrowed tomb lay,

Awaiting His resurrection,

On that third and glorious day!

Early on that very day,

Mary Magdalene and Mary went to the tomb.

All their hopes were shattered.

Their hearts were filled with gloom.

The happenings of the previous day,

Did not seem to be real.

Pilate had even given orders,

That Jesus' tomb be sealed!

As the women approached the tomb,

To one another they began to say,

"There's a stone at the grave's entrance!"

"Who will roll the stone, away?'"

But, when they arrived at the grave site,

They were in for quite a surprise!

The great stone had been rolled away!

They could hardly believe their eyes!

When the women entered the sepulcher,

They beheld an awesome sight!

There standing before them,

Were two angels dressed in white!

They stood there in amazement,

As the angels said,

"Why seek ye, the living among the dead?"

"For it has been fulfilled,

As He often said unto thee,

"Behold, I go before you into Galileee!"

"He is not here" "He is risen,"

The angels continued to say.

So Mary and Mary Magdalene,

Hurried on their way!

When they ran to the disciples,

The good news to tell,

Jesus met them in the way,

Saying, "All Hail!"

As they came and held Him by the feet,

And worshiped Him,

Their problems of the recent days,

Suddenly became dim!

Jesus said, "Go tell my brethren,

My face they shall see,"

"If they will just meet Me in Galilee!"

So the Mary and Mary Magdalene,

Went speedily on their way,

To remind Jesus' disciples,

This was His Resurrection Day!

In the forty days between Jesus' resurrection,

And His ascension,

His appearing to His disciples,

The Bible repeatedly mentions!

Then, when He ascended to Heaven,

Like He said He would do,

He, sent back another Comforter,

For me and you!

Friend, when He arose to Heaven,

And sat down at the Father's right hand,

He had successfully completed,

Salvation's wonderful plan!

THE LOVE OF A CHILD
By Robert F. Dotson ©2015

I sincerely believe,

In this whole world around,

The laughter of a child,

Is life's most pleasant sound!

And it surely is a mystery,

In God's master plan,

How tiny hands can grip the heart,

Of the world's meanest man.

The love of a child,

Is a balm to one's soul!

To gain their respect,

Is a most worthy goal!

These nuggets of wisdom,

I've garnered first hand.

Now I'm the happiest Grandpa,

In all of the land!

THE TENT MEETING
Robert F. Dotson © 2015

Folks back then came from miles around,

To the big tent meeting in the little town!

In conspicuous places on a tree or pole,

Printed notices advertised healing for body and soul!

Men in bib overalls and shirts of white,

And ladies in long dresses were a common sight!

Large families were the norm back then,

With children numbering eight or ten!

The weather was hot and I recall,

The tent meeting was in Summer or early Fall!

So, just about every woman and man,

Possessed a picturesque funeral parlor fan!

For several reasons the people came.

But, most came to lift up Jesus' name!

However, some folks came to stare and gawk,

While others would stand outside and talk.

But, before the first service was to start,

Saints were praying folks would give God their heart!

They prayed believing,

If they could get their loved ones there,

God would be merciful and answer their prayer!

From the very first stanza of the first song,

Folks clapped their hands and sang along!

When the camp meeting preacher described hell,

Under the tent, old-fashioned conviction fell.

Sinners began to weep and wail,

As they made their way "down the sawdust trail."

After repenting at the altar they felt so sublime,

And under the old tent "they had themselves a time!"

Quite often whole families would go forward to pray,

And there was a remarkable change,

As they went on their way!

A CANDLE IN THE NIGHT

Dear Lord, let me be,

A candle in the night.

For, I want this wicked world,

To see the light.

They don’t need to know my name,

I just want them,

To see Your flame,

Shining ever so bright!

Lord, I just want to be,

Completely hidden in Thee.

Fill me with power from above!

In this troubled land,

Let me extend a helping hand,

Reaching out with the light,

Of Your love!

So, light my candle Lord,

With fire from your altar!

Oh, let the message shine out,

Near and far.

Jesus is a Saviour,

Who is so meek and lowly.

Just call His name,

And He’ll come to where you are!

A CALL TO ARMS!

Here’s your sword and shield.

You’re needed on the battlefield.

Hasten, there’s no time for delay!

Oh, hear your fellow soldiers cry,

“We will fight on ‘til we die,”

“Then be rewarded at the ending of day!”

Veteran soldiers have been called out.

They left here with a shout!

They’ve gone on to receive their just reward!

They were examples for me and you,

And we can be victors too,

If we go forth in the name of the Lord!

Ah, we have lingered much too long,

And now the enemy has grown strong.

So, we must rise up bravely in God’s might!

Let’s raise the blood-stained banner high.

For when it’s waving in the sky,

It tells old satan we have just begun to fight!

We must never lay our armour down,

For soon we’ll receive our robe and crown,

And be part of the Blessed Saviour’s bride!

Far beyond the battle’s roar,

On that everlasting shore,

We’ll stand forever by His side!

IF I COULD WRITE A LOVE SONG!

Lord, if I could write a love song,

It would be especially for You!

It wouldn't be about a love gone wrong,

Or a heart that had proved untrue.

I would mention Your precious name,

In each and every line,

Telling how with love You came,

Into this heart of mine!

If I could direct a symphony,

With each instrument in place,

Oh, what an honor it would be,

To play "Amazing Grace!"

If I could take the brush of grace,

And portray upon my heart,

The image of Your loving face,

The tears of joy would start!

If I could lift my voice and sing,

With a spirit-filled, blood-bought choir,

To offer praises to my King,

It would fulfill my greatest desire!

For Lord, I remember how You died,

Upon the cruel tree.

The blood flowed from your hands,

Feet, and side,

To save a wretch like me!

THE LORD HATH NEED OF THEE!

Are you a new Christian that God has set free?

Welcome to His army!

The Lord hath need of thee!

Friend, you must hide in your heart,

His marvelous word!

You'll be able to use later,

All that you have heard!

The Lord has need of you in your youth,

When your heart is tender,

And your mind will accept truth!

He needs you to be strong,

And to sow precious seed,

v And to be an example,

That is righteous indeed!

The Lord needs your talents,

To be used in His will!

He can only use a vessel,

That is yielded and still.

God in His mercy,

Sent the former and latter rain!

Many laborers are now needed,

To harvest the golden grain!

Countlesss souls are being lost,

Each and every day.

God needs messengers to point them,

To Jesus, The Way!

The Lord hath need of prayer warriors,

To fall an their knees!

For, when old satan is resisted,

He always flees!

The Lord hath need of pastors,

To nurture His sheep,

To work in His vineyard,

To sow, water, and reap!

The Lord hath need of evangelists,

To travel across the land,

Presenting salvation,

To each boy, girl, woman, and man!

The Lord hath need of teachers,

To present His word!

For, how can they believe,

If they have never heard?

The Lord hath need of church folks,

Who will take a stand,

And keep old satan,

From "getting the upper hand!ā€¯

Friend, no matter how unimportant,

You think you may be,

If you're one of God's children,

Then the Lord hath need of thee!

WHAT IS THAT IN THINE HAND?

What is that in thine hand?

Use it for the Lord,

Be it soothing balm or God's word,

The two-edged sword!

Give your all to Christ!

Seek not your own gain!

Run on to the end!

With Him Ye shall reign!

Satan has laid snares all along our path.

But, he knows his time is short.

Soon he'll face God's wrath.

The baton has been passed to us!

We cannot lay it down,

For waiting at the race's end,

Is a robe and crown!

The Midnight Hour approaches.

We must run with all our might!

You see, over the next hurdle,

The finish line is in sight!

'Tis a daily battle in this spiritual fight.

But, take courage my dear comrade.

We are in the right!

We must stand together,

Bravely in God's sight,

As we pierce the darkness,

With His shining light!

Though Christ is the Commander,

Of this righteous force,

Satan's fleet keeps trying,

To get our ship off course.

But, "the Old Ship of Zion,"

With all saints aboard,

Maneuvers through rough waters,

Piloted by our Lord!

Though we are faced with the onslaught,

Of satan's mighty flood,

We are more than conquerors,

Through Christ's precious blood!

Soon will come the harvest,

And the gathering of the grain.

When we see its yield,

We'll know we labored not in vain!

'Til then we must keep praying,

And sowing the precious seed,

For God will send the gentle rain,

In the time of need!

You and I are runners, laborers,

And soldiers under God's command!

Friend, He has well equipped us!

What is that in thine hand?
